World Heritage Day 2014
This Year’s theme “Heritage of Commemoration” as given by UNESCO provides an opportunity to present those constructions that have been intentionally created with the purpose of commemorating a great event, a person, an idea etc. and partly inspired by the centennial in 2014 of the beginning of the Great War of 1914-1918.
In line with the above idea, INTACH East Godavari Chapter celebrated this year’s World Heritage Day by conducting an Essay writing competition for 120 students of classes 8th.9th.&10th from schools in and around Mamidikuduru Mandalam on KONASEEMA HERITAGE. Many facts regarding the heritage prevalent in the Konaseema area were well brought out by the students. Prize winning Essays were read out by the students at the function held at Aadurru, near the Buddhist Stupa (built by Emperor Ashoka’s daughter, Sanghamitra,2000 years ago) relic in association with the Aadurru Buddha Vihar Trust. The Convener of the District Chapter, L.Seshu Kumari welcomed the guests and members who attended in large numbers from Kakinada. She informed about the Chapter’s activities. Shri SSR Bhoopathi, member from Razole and Secretary of the Trust, Shri Chittabbai, senior most member, Dr.MVBharathalakshmi, Head Masters of the Schools, Dr.Vekateswarulu author of KONASEEMA ANDALU addressed the audience. Later Prizes were given away by all the INTACH Members who attended. Shri VVLN Murthy, CoConvener designate proposed the vote of thanks.
