Restoration of P R Govt.(A) college

      P R college principals(old) office building has great historical importance,more than 2 centuries ago it was the summer palace of Raja of Pitapuram(a small estate near Kakinada) the Raja is well known for his philanthropy and gifted many places-sites for worthy and noble causes.The summer palace which was in the centre of a 36 acr land was subsequently given to accomedate the District Collector's residance,Britishers lived in this place till the Raja,Sri R V K M Gangadara Rama Rao wanted to start an educational institution to complement his Grand Vision of providing educational facilities to the public of Kakinada,then British Collector Mr.Aurthur Purvage vacated that Bunglaw to establish the institute.The same building was used when it was upgraded as second grade college and affliated to the then Madras University in 1885.It was built in Dutch architecture style with high tiled roof over the 1st floor has a colonial style with gabled roof and magestic steps to the first floor,the ground and first floor space measures around 10000 sft.The college was taken over by the Govt. in 1952 till then stallwarts in their discipline of study headed each department and the Principals were personally selected by Raja who excelled in their profession .The princiapls office and their administration section were housed in the 1st floor,staff rooms,library and archaids were housed in the ground floor.The architecture is to be preserved by the restaration of building which was leaking to the roof and the wooden beams have been dameged due to exposure to weather conditions.Roads and Buildings department covered the roof with tar sheets but could not erase the leaks,expert engineering was involved as the roof was very high.The college old students association took up the task of restoration along with financial assistance from INTACH.The total cost of the project was 10.5lakhs out of which INTACH Delhi contributed 4 lakhs,then that project was successfully completed.
