The cultural heritage of our country is a priceless asset and non-renewable resource. Majority of our heritage remains largely unidentified, neglected, threatened by urban pressures and even systematically eliminated. INTACH from its inception has recognized the need for identifying and documenting the cultural heritage throughout our country and started the listing programme as one of its main activities. Till date about 54,000 heritage resources in 150 cities/towns have been listed by INTACH. Some of listings such as that of Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata are published by INTACH and have been notified by the local authorities.
